We teamed up with makeup artist Bonnie Ferguson again last weekend. What promised to be a quick two hour shoot in the Lethbridge coulees became an epic adventure involving hikes with gear, rolling in the snow, and a secret wish for four wheel drive. We loaded our equipment into separate vehicles and drove to Popson Park to scout an access point into our location from the coulee bottom – bad idea. Within 5 minutes both vehicles were stuck in an icy boat launch that required a tow truck driver’s winch much later in the day.
Not to be discouraged, we found an alternate location with some visual texture and interest in close proximity to our original plan – so with wet boots, muddy jeans, and a positive attitude we created some fun frames. It was an interesting contrast between models on this shoot – this was our first test shoot for Kellie (in the leather jacket) – a Lethbridge local breaking into modelling, and Anessa – who we’ve shot just once before via Jaime Vedres (a local Lethbridge photographer).
Brien and I created a quick video on set to help other photographers interested in the technical lighting setup visualize the scene rather than provide lighting diagrams on paper. These frames are not final, but a draft experimentation with different processing styles.
