Lethbridge Hip Hop is Alive and Well
Despite a late start, yesterday’s hip hop show at the Blarney Stone in Lethbridge was cooked to perfection! Local promoter James Nishima (DJ Booda Promotions) brought in Raekwon of Wu Tang Clan fame to kick off his 2010 Canadian Tour and new album “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II“.
14 years span the release of “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” and “Linx II”, so fans of Raekwon were treated to a barrage of classic and new material from this now-40-year-old rap icon. Opening for the show was Vancouver trio “Global Syndicate”, who warmed up the crowd between sets by local DJs and minor hip hop artists. With a planned start time at 9pm and a tweet from Raekwon at 10:30pm saying he just arrived to his hotel room, I knew Brien (assist) and I were in for a long haul. Raekwon finally got things jumping well after midnight, and his show was well worth the wait. His use of local DJs to spin for his show is commendable, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some upcoming talent. Lethbridge’s champion was “DJ Weasel”, who did a solid job backing Raekwon and entourage.
Aside from the still photos, I also managed to shoot video footage with my Canon 7D. Thanks to Logan and staff at McBain Camera for the great customer service and the equipment loan, the zoom worked great with video!

Nice shots. Were you on ISO 6400 on most of the photos from the show? I have a Zoom H2 that I throw on top of my camera (on the hot shoe mount) for quick ‘n dirty video stuff. Loving the Zoom products.
Hi Ben,
Thank you for the comment! Most of these are ISO 800 or lower. The zoom H4n is an amazing device!
