Everything but the Bitchin’, Ink!

Carrie came by to collaborate with my team to test for some fashion-based shooting. If you’ve been following my body of photography, you’ll know I’m a sucker for two things:

  1. Girls
  2. Girls with Tattoos

One of my favourite shoots is too take a heavily-inked model and dress her up for a night on the town, a heavy contrast of classic beauty with modern primitivism.

Who else would I choose for the task to apply “pretty” to a face such as Carrie’s? You guessed it – the impeccable Bonnie Ferguson was well up to the task, and chose quite a clean look that emphasized Carrie’s natural beauty. While Bonnie worked with Carrie – Brien Gehring and I setup a new light setup to experiment a bit. I’ve been wanting to use coloured gels with side-lighting for some time, so our frames alternated from a teal/orange setup to a pink / purple combination to suggest more of a “nightclub” feel to the set. Our main light was an ABR800 with 20 degree grid to control spill and we shot Carrie on black seamless, sometimes separating her from the background with a bare SB-600 strobe, shooting into the flare for interest.

After testing, we shot with Carrie in a construction zone for Section 8 Sports, which I will post at a later date. This second shoot included much more dark makeup and a totally different spin from this one – it was great to shoot them both in the same session.
